A picture of a little girl at a church outside the city.  It only has a roof on half of the structure.  We were able to help with the roof the next week.

Today was a full day at MCA as I started off for school at 7am. It took me 35 minutes to get to school at a brisk walk. You have to keep your head up as so many people are walking and trucks and buses go by on basically a one lane road. Mary twisted her back doing some laundry this morning and spent the day flat on her back. I think she needed the rest as she was feeling better by supper time.

I enjoyed working with the students and started for home at 3pm which
took 15 minutes by bus. We had time for a quick walk around the
neighborhood before supper. We are going to Carrel and Annetjie's for
supper.

Madagascar Begins

Today is April 14th and our first full day in Antananrivo with a lot
of new experiences. We went with Gerla the AIM coordinator as she
showed us around the area we will be living. Just down the street we
got on a small minibus and travelled about ten minutes into the
market. We went to the bank, the Internet cafe, the market and
shoprite. We came home with food and quite tired, as it was a lot of
walking and about 26degrees. We had a meeting with Gill the acting
principal of the school and then home for supper.
We have not taken very many photos yet but will post some when we do.
Tomorrow we will visit two schools and find out what we will be doing
for the next month.

March 31

March 31
It is the end of March and this has been an exciting month. We were
able to get some work done at Grace and do some touring. We visited
the bush school west of Ndola , taking them school supplies and some
shoes for the grade one students. The school has 3000 students grades
one to nine with fourteen teachers. Classrooms have over a hundred
students with three to a desk. With that pupil teacher ratio Canadian
teachers would revolt.
The highlight of the month was the trip to Livingston and Victoria
Falls. We were able to stand on the footbridge and get soaked by the
spray. Later we climbed down to the bottom of the falls to the Boiling
Pot. At certain points we had to wade thru meter deep water and swing
from branches to reach the bottom. What an awesome experience!
In livingston we went on a safari in open landrovers, seeing impala,
wart hog , giraffe, zebra, wildebeest, monkey, lizards and more. We
went on a dinner cruise on the Zambesi, seeing elephant, hippo, and
many birds.
We finished the trip with stay at the Protea safari lodge north of
Lusaka were we got attacked by a kudu, rode an elephant, close enough
to pet a 7 year old male lion and ate some great food.
This had to be a March to remember.
