Jan 30th on the Crocodile Hunt

The Canadian well drillers arrived last week and during the week we heard of another lady taken by a crocodile . We decided to take saturday afternoon to go on a hunt.  The day time is not the best time to hunt crocs but it was the only time we had.  So we climbed into dugout canoes and made our way up the Zambezi River.

look for the croc

The dugout canoe was a bit tippy and I was hoping we would not see a croc untill we were on land.  The gun blast might put us all in the Zambezi.  We were straining our eyes to see the creature.

Andrew Ready

Andrew was ready with the gun to shoot if we were able to spot the croc.

Croc story A

You might say that people need to be careful when they go to the river because of the crocodiles and I am sure they are.  The river is however very much a part of everyone's life.  This is their only source of water in most cases and a transportation route as well.  Besides crocs the river holds many dangers,  hippos, snake, and disease.  Water borne diseases are a major cause of death in this area.

Croc Story b

The Zambian folks use the river for washing clothes and bathing.  Many would go to the river 2 or three times a day.

Croc Story c

Since the Zambezi River is so important to the local people some end up getting taken by crocodiles.  The locals tell me usually  15 to 20 people a year and often no remains are found.  This past Christmas a small girl was taken and they only found bits of her clothing.

Recent Pictures

Between Christmas and New Years a young girl was eaten by a crocodile.  The dad said she was at the river  with other children when the croc attacked.  She was taken and no remains were found.  These are picts of a croc shot by the McAdam boys Dec. 30th.  This was not the same croc that killed the little girl.
